Israeli-American actress Natalie Portman is famous for her role in several blockbusters, including Thor and Black Swan. She is an Oscar-winning artist for Best Actress for her role in Black Swan. In addition to her successful career, Natalie is a Harvard grad with a degree in psychology and also an activist.
The actress was born on June 9, 1981 in Israel, and raised in Washington D.C. and New York. At the age of 11, she started pursuing a modeling career. She turned to acting after feeling a monotonous routine by working with the Usdan Theatre Arts Camp and participated in local productions. She made a breakthrough with a role in The Professional which gained much attention in 1994.
The successful debut followed with a spectacular performance in a crime thriller Heat (1995) as a troubled daughter. She kept polishing her acting skills by taking supportive roles in dramas and movies. Her remarkable appearance in Beautiful Girls (1996) put her name as one of Hollywood newcomers. In 2010, she prepared her role in Black Swan as a ballerina with an intense dance training and losing much weight. The effort she put to the movie was acclaimed with critics, even made her won the prestigious Academy Award and the Golden Globe for Best Actress.
She continued performing as a professional actress in some movies, such as the romantic No Strings Attached in 2011 and became a lead in Thor. In No Strings Attached, she was also an executive producer. Her outstanding appearance in Jackie (2016) made her received Oscar nominations and a Golden Globe. In addition to acting, she is an environmental and animal rights activist and became a vegan.
She also worked with a microfinance organization as an ambassador to help the developing countries. In 2018, Natalie spoke up about the absence of female directors in the Golden Globe nomination. The actress also actively joined the #MeToo campaign.
Natalie Portman married to Benjamin Millepied, French dancer and choreographer whom she met during the Black Swan production in 2012. The couple started dating in 2009, engaged in the following year. They had their second daughter in 2017.
