Billie Eilish, in full Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell, is an American singer-songwriter who made a breakthrough during her teenage years. She is known internationally for her debut single “Ocean Eyes” in 2015. With her signature vocal and unique songs, Billie became the youngest artist who won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
Billie was born on December 18, 2001 in Los Angeles, California to Patrick O’Connell and Maggie Baird who work in entertainment industry. She grew up listening to Avril Lavigne and The Beatles. Billie and her elder brother Finneas O’Connell were homeschooled by their parents to explore their potentials outside of the conventional education system.
When Billie was a child, she used to dance, make a homemade films, and also sing with the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. At the age of 11, she started writing and composing her songs. Billie’s brother, who had a band on his own, produced a song called “Ocean Eyes” and asked Billie to perform it in 2015. The recording that was put online was unexpectedly turned into a major breakthrough for her career. She becomes a hot icon with her outstanding vocal ability that distinct her from another superstars who started their career from performing in television shows.
After she signed with Darkroom in 2016, she released “Bellyache” which gained massive success the following year. She then launched a soundtrack for a series 13 Reasons Why that called “Bored”. It followed with an EP Don’t Smile at Me and topped the international music charts.
Alongside with Khalid, Billie released her 13 Reasons Why’s second soundtrack, “Lovely” in 2018 which also made her came to fame. In 2019, Billie Eilish released her first full-length album that came with the touch of pop-hiphop-electronic music. It successfully reached the No. 1 on Billboard 200 and won two Grammys in 2020 for Album of the Year and Song of the Year for the hit single “Bad Guy”. She also made a Coachella debut in 2019.
She continued to earn one achievement to another in 2020. She went on tour and a single “Everything I Wanted” that reflected her career journey was released. Billie Eilish became the youngest artist who received four Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist. She also released the 25th James Bond film soundtrack, “No Time to Die” around that time. Her signature styles and singing ability made people fell in love with her. Finneas ever said that he always tries to produce the music to accentuate Billie’s voice.
